Trend Chasing: A Controversial Convo?

I have to wonder...if this concept of chasing the latest trends is actually worth it.

We are in the age of TikTok and Reels, constantly seeing new things going viral. Whether it's a dance, or something eye catching --- but does that mean we have to chase the latest trend in order to succeed? Especially when what's viral is ever changing?

How do we keep up?

In this glowing age of screens and doom scrolls, we want to appeal to everyone. The fact is, when we do that, we appeal to very few, if anyone at all...

Because we're not meant to. We have a personal brand that's not meant for everyone. In fact, our brands talk to one person, and one type of person alone.

Scary thought, right?

But, hey, it's okay! Talking to this one type of individual is significant regarding brand loyalty and building essentially our following/fan base. Because after a while, trying to appeal to everyone won't feel as good.

You're susceptible to burnout and exhaustion trying to keep up.

Think about it, where is the emotional ROI?

Bogging ourselves down with hashtags, times of day to post, chasing after something with an expiration date we're not aware of. Go with what feels right to you because authenticity is sexy.

And here's the thing, and what might be the most bitter pill to swallow: most trends will never go viral. Why force it and push-push-push when you can open yourself to finding organic chemistry among your communities? We're talking sustainable, long-term growth over trying to fast track success and possibly waste time.

Trends fade, but your brand won't.
